Step up to the challenge and help Diabetes NZ raise funds to change the lives of the 1 million Kiwis affected by diabetes. Almost 280,000 Kiwis have diabetes, with a further 100,000 people predicted to have pre-diabetes or who are at risk. It’s a serious and life-threatening condition which is often misunderstood, and the high number of people affected means the personal and social costs are enormous.
Diabetes NZ has partnered with Fitbit to create the ‘Step up 250K Challenge’ to raise funds and promote healthy lifestyle habits, which have a positive effect on the prevention and management of diabetes. All you need to take part is a Fitbit, or the free Fitbit app on your mobile phone, or a pedometer or step tracker. There’s no minimum amount to fundraise, but we challenge you to raise $75.
So take part in the 250K Challenge and step with friends, family and whānau over the month of November to get fitter, stronger and to raise money for Diabetes NZ.

Diabetes Action Month 2021 kicks off on Monday 1 November, with the theme Step Up for Diabetes. We've chosen this theme because every year, 600 New Zealanders lose a limb to diabetes, but by raising funds for Diabetes NZ you can help this stop happening.
$75 is a great goal, but every little bit helps so just do your best 😊
The goal is 250,000 steps over the month of November, or 8,300 steps a day. If you don’t do that many on any given day, you can top up your steps on another day.
Share the link to your givealittle page on your social channels or by email to let them know you’re stepping up for Diabetes NZ and they can sponsor you through givealittle online.
That’s totally fine, you can just do a few more steps each day to make up for it and reach your goal of 250,000 steps.
No, you can just use the free downloadable Fitbit app from the App store.
All donations made to the 250k challenge will directly support people living with or affected by diabetes.
No, nothing on your Fitbit device will change, it will be tracking your steps only.

Your givealittle page will track your total steps based either on your Fitbit data or your manual entries and will give you a running total so you can see how you are tracking to reach your 250,000 step goal.
